Royal expert questions the Sussexes’ plans, claiming they ‘never do what they say or say what they mean’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s changing plans have sparked questions about their long-term intentions, with royal expert Schofield suggesting their return to Britain could be a trial run rather than a permanent move.
Schofield believes the Sussexes want to maintain ties with Britain and the royal family while preserving their independence in the US.
“I suspect they want the best of both worlds, access to Britain, proximity to the monarchy and the credibility that comes with Harry’s royal identity, while maintaining the freedom and commercial opportunities they associate with life outside the UK,” Schofield said.
However, conflicting accounts of the couple’s plans have left uncertainty over whether they intend to settle in Britain or are simply testing the waters.
Schofield questioned those mixed messages, claiming: “Harry and Meghan never do what they say or say what they mean.
“One year ago, Harry told us the U.K. was not safe enough to bring his wife and children. Now someone is briefing the Daily Mail that Harry has a 15-year plan in the U.K. Alternatively, we’re briefed this could be temporary.”
“I would describe it as a trial run rather than a definitive homecoming,” Schofield added.
The couple’s return has also prompted speculation about their broader ambitions, with some suggesting they are keeping their options open as they seek to position themselves as an international power couple.
