Prince Harry’s reported demands emerge as a major issue remains unresolved
Prince Harry could keep the Royal Household on its toes, with new reports suggesting his feelings have changed little since he stepped down as a senior working royal.
Despite speculation about a return to royal duties, the Sussexes reportedly have no interest in resuming their former roles. A friend of Harry’s said he remains “frustrated by the ‘men in grey suits’” and still expects an apology for how Meghan was treated within the family.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams warned that these lingering grievances could make Harry’s presence around the royals more difficult, particularly for King Charles.
“If he still feels as aggrieved as it is now reported, he is dangerous to the Royal Family as tens of millions saw Oprah and Spare had huge sales and the Sussexes are now, suddenly, in situ,” Fitzwilliams said.
Harry told the BBC last year that he wanted to reconcile with his family, particularly following his father’s cancer diagnosis. However, the unresolved question of his police protection presents another dilemma for the King.
As monarch, Charles has a duty to the Crown and cannot show direct favouritism towards his son, even if he is concerned about Harry and his children’s well-being.
Fitzwilliams suggested that the two sides remain divided over what reconciliation would require. He said Harry believes “reconciliation requires accountability, but the Royal Family will never publicly apologise”.
The commentator also pointed to the late Queen Elizabeth’s response to the Sussexes’ allegations, describing her remark about differing recollections as especially memorable. He argued that people still do not trust the Sussexes and believe they have reason for that distrust.
