King Charles appears in high spirits in newly released photos following joyful royal news
King Charles has made a cheerful public appearance as he continues to undergo cancer treatment.
The Royal Family’s official Instagram account released new photos of the monarch on August 5 while sharing details of his weekend engagement in Scotland.
“Over the weekend, The King attended the Mey Highland Games in Caithness, Scotland,” the Palace announced.
“The programme celebrates the best of traditional Scottish sports including heavy weight competitions, Highland dancing, track events, tug-of-war and junior athletics.”
The event holds a special connection to Charles, who has served as Chieftain of the Mey Highland Games since 2002. He took over the position from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.
In the latest pictures, the King appeared upbeat and energetic as he enjoyed the traditional Scottish event while continuing to receive medical care following his cancer diagnosis.
The new photos come after Charles previously shared an encouraging update about his treatment.
In December 2025, the monarch revealed that an early diagnosis and “effective intervention” had produced positive results, with his treatment expected to be reduced in 2026.
Buckingham Palace has not provided any further detailed update on the current state of the King’s cancer since that announcement.
Charles’ latest appearance also comes during a happy period for the Royal Family, following the August 4 announcement of the birth of Princess Eugenie’s baby girl.
