Meghan Markle was reportedly disappointed after Beyoncé visited London without meeting up with her, prompting questions about the closeness of their friendship.
The Duchess of Sussex has received public support from the superstar during difficult times with the British royal family. Beyoncé has also referred to Meghan as “my princess”, while her mother, Tina Knowles, appeared on Meghan’s podcast last year.
According to sources cited by Rob Shuter, Meghan “didn’t expect Beyoncé to roll out a red carpet” but had hoped they could catch up over tea.
Beyoncé spent Friday night celebrating her 45th birthday while watching Jay-Z perform in London. Sources claimed that the absence of a private get-together “stung” Meghan.
“Meghan believed their connection had moved beyond Hollywood niceties,” an insider said. “She thought Beyoncé was someone she could consider a genuine friend. Being in the same country and not seeing each other forced Meghan to question that.”
The source added that Meghan was “hurt” because she had wanted to spend time with Beyoncé personally, rather than attend another concert.
“Sometimes celebrity friendships look much closer from the outside than they actually are.”
