The Duke of Sussex reportedly wants to arrange informal family visits with minimal Palace involvement
Prince Harry is hoping to strengthen his children’s relationship with King Charles following his return to the UK, even as questions over his family’s security remain unresolved.
According to a Daily Mail report, a friend of the Duke of Sussex said Harry hopes to arrange informal tea visits with his father once a month, giving Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet more time with their grandfather.
Charles, described as an affectionate and doting grandfather, particularly since his cancer diagnosis, is likely to welcome the chance to make up for lost time.
“They are hoping to see more of the King and for the children to properly get to know him and be a part of his life,” the friend said.
Harry reportedly hopes to keep the arrangements as personal as possible, limiting the involvement of Palace officials.
“I do think Harry will try to make his arrangements without involving the Palace apparatus as far as he can. Yes, a cup of tea and a run around the garden for half an hour on a Sunday, that sort of thing.”
The friend also said the Sussexes “have been deliberately keeping as low a profile as possible” while honouring an agreement made in July.
“Harry is determined to stay as much of a private citizen as possible and has been sending a message that this is what he is.”
The Daily Express has contacted Buckingham Palace and the Duke of Sussex for comment.
