Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly made an emotional request to King Charles following their return to Britain with their children.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be seeking a private meeting over tea with the monarch, according to royal commentator Rob Shuter, who cited palace sources.
Although Harry and Meghan remain non-working members of the Royal Family and are expected to live privately, insiders claim that receiving a warm welcome from Charles is particularly important to the couple.
“They need Charles’ seal of approval,” a royal insider told Shuter.
“One photograph, one cup of tea, one warm welcome from the King is worth more to Harry and Meghan than a dozen Hollywood deals. It tells the world they’re back inside the royal orbit,” the source added.
Another insider jokingly claimed that while Meghan might “prefer a parade down The Mall,” she would be willing to settle for a private tea with the King.
The source also suggested that the Sussexes did not relocate thousands of miles simply to maintain a quiet life in the Cotswolds.
“They didn’t move thousands of miles back to Britain to disappear quietly into the Cotswolds,” the insider claimed. “These are not low-key people. They are begging the King for a meeting.”
Reports suggest that Charles privately hosted the Sussex family at Highgrove in July, a gesture interpreted by some royal watchers as evidence of a possible thaw following years of tension and estrangement.
However, Harry and Meghan are not believed to be seeking a return to their former positions as senior working royals. Instead, sources claim the couple hopes to rebuild a close enough relationship with the monarch to retain a meaningful connection to the institution.
“They don’t need to be working royals. They need to be royal adjacent,” the insider said. “Hollywood can give them attention. Only Charles can give them the royal relevance they can’t manufacture themselves.”
While Netflix may have provided lucrative opportunities and life in America offered the Sussexes greater independence, royal insiders believe public acceptance from King Charles could give the couple something neither Hollywood nor financial success can deliver: renewed credibility within royal circles.
