Prince William and King Charles have reportedly set aside their differences to present a united front as Prince Harry prepares to return to the UK.
The King and the Prince of Wales are said to be standing together on one key issue: there will be no return to a “half-in, half-out” role for the Duke of Sussex within the monarchy.
Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, and the late Queen Elizabeth II made clear that they would not be able to retain the benefits of royal life while stepping back from its responsibilities. According to reports, Charles and William intend to uphold that same position.
Royal commentator Grant Harrold told The Independent that William is likely to feel strongly about the situation, particularly after the Duke of Sussex’s public comments about the Royal Family.
“William will be furious. Harry has said some extraordinary things about the family,” Harrold said, adding that the Prince of Wales is someone for whom broken trust can be difficult to repair.
A source also told the Mirror that William is “completely united” with his father in refusing to allow the Sussexes to take on a part-time royal role.
The reported stance sends a clear signal that, despite any hopes of reconciliation, Harry and Meghan will not be offered a route back into working royal life on their own terms.
