Prince William may soon find himself facing a difficult decision over his relationship with Prince Harry as speculation about a possible royal reconciliation continues to build.
The Prince of Wales, who is expected to become King and eventually serve as head of the Church of England, could face growing pressure to repair his strained relationship with his younger brother.
Questions are now being raised over whether William will soften his stance as Harry settles back into life in the UK with his family. With the brothers geographically closer than before, talk of a long-awaited reunion between Princess Diana’s sons has intensified.
Royal author Katie Nicholl told Hello! Magazine that Harry’s return could make it increasingly difficult for William to rule out reconciliation.
“In many ways, Harry’s really got William over a barrel because it will be very difficult with them being geographically so much closer and Harry being welcomed back into the royal fold by his father, at least, for William to be adamant that there will be no reconciliation,” she said.
Nicholl suggested William’s future responsibilities could also play an important role in how he chooses to handle the family rift.
“As a future king and a Christian member of the royal family who will one day be head of the Church of England, I think there will be an expectation and some pressure on him to step up to the plate and be the bigger of the brothers and to show forgiveness,” she explained.
According to the royal expert, Harry’s move back to Britain could ultimately bring the brothers closer to resolving their differences.
“I think this move to Britain will accelerate that inevitable reconciliation which will have to come at some point,” Nicholl added.
