Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reported return to the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, has coincided with a major Buckingham Palace announcement.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were said to have begun a new chapter in Britain on August 26. However, attention quickly turned to King Charles and Queen Camilla after the Palace confirmed details of their upcoming autumn tour.
The royal couple will travel from October 27 to November 4, with visits planned to the Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, and Guyana.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggested the timing of the announcement was significant.
“The news of the King and Queen’s tour was obviously, in my view, deliberately announced to coincide with their arrival,” he told GB News.
He noted that the monarchy’s relationship with the Commonwealth remains particularly important for King Charles, adding that Harry and Meghan had once been expected to play a meaningful role in strengthening those ties.
“The monarchy’s link with the Commonwealth is uniquely precious,” Fitzwilliams said. “Harry and Meghan were once to be pivotal links with the Commonwealth.”
However, he argued that the Sussexes’ departure from royal duties and criticism of the institution had changed their position, leaving them unable to retain the same royal privileges.
