A royal expert highlights a key obstacle in the Sussexes’ reported efforts to arrange further meetings with the monarch
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly moving into the next stage of their reconciliation efforts with King Charles, buoyed by renewed hope following their recent meeting.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have been developing plans to repair their relationship with the monarch. Charles is also believed to be eager to spend more time with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Their meeting at Highgrove House last month was reportedly considered a success, leaving Harry and Meghan optimistic about taking further steps. However, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams warned that the couple will need to handle their next moves carefully.
“Their plan is undoubtedly to see more of Britain, to come over more often and see more of the King,” Fitzwilliams told GB News.
Efforts are reportedly underway to encourage Charles to attend next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham, although Fitzwilliams stressed that putting these plans into action may prove difficult.
“The plan is one thing, the execution is another,” he said, adding that “it is unclear how that will be managed.”
One of the biggest challenges facing Harry is his ongoing security situation in Britain. The Duke wants the matter resolved before the Games so he can feel comfortable bringing Meghan and their children to the country.
Uncertainty over police protection reportedly complicated the Sussexes’ latest visit and ultimately led to Meghan withdrawing from planned Invictus-related appearances.
Harry is now understood to be seeking clearer arrangements to prevent similar disruption during the Birmingham Games and any future meetings with his father.
