King Charles has sent a special message to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to mark the country’s National Liberation Day, highlighting the close relationship between the UK and South Korea.
The monarch, who recently took part in a private photo shoot at Windsor Castle, used the message to praise South Korea’s climate commitments and its efforts to expand clean-energy initiatives.
In his note, signed jointly with Queen Camilla, Charles said National Liberation Day offered an opportunity to reflect on the “enduring friendship” between the two nations.
He also referred to Princess Anne’s three-day trip to South Korea in July, describing it as an important moment for the partnership between the countries.
“The recent visit of The Princess Royal was an important moment in our partnership, and I am most grateful for the generous hospitality extended to her,” the King wrote.
During the visit, Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, met President Lee at Cheong Wa Dae. The Princess Royal also attended a service marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Imjin River.

The King and Queen concluded by sending their best wishes to President Lee and the people of South Korea for “peace, prosperity and wellbeing” in the year ahead.
