Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s hopes of reconciling with the royal family have received a fresh update, with King Charles reportedly making it clear that any progress must happen on his terms.
Although the monarch is said to be open to rebuilding his relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, he does not want to be rushed into taking major steps.
“[Charles] wants this relationship, but he wants to rebuild it at a pace that’s comfortable for him,” a source told Woman’s Day.
According to the insider, Harry and Meghan are far more eager to move the reconciliation process forward.
“The problem is, it’s becoming pretty obvious that the Sussexes are in much more of a hurry to keep building on things,” the source claimed. “Harry wants to see his dad as often as physically possible.”
Harry is reportedly hopeful that repairing family ties could allow him to share important occasions with the royals, potentially ranging from Christmas celebrations to the 2027 Invictus Games.
Meghan is also believed to support the reconciliation efforts. Reports suggest the couple’s royal connection remains important to their public profile as they face challenges establishing a lasting place in Hollywood.
“They want to make up for lost time, and Charles appreciates that, but as far as he’s concerned, it needs to be baby steps,” the insider added.
For now, Charles is reportedly keeping his relationship with Harry and Meghan on a “casual footing.” The King is said to be proceeding carefully, particularly in light of Prince William’s strong opposition to the Sussexes returning to the royal fold.
“He’s glad to be rebuilding a relationship with Harry, but there’s no doubt it’s an enormous undertaking,” the source said.
“The backlash he’s having to contend with is very challenging, and Harry isn’t necessarily helping matters by being really quite overzealous at times.”
The reported message from Charles appears clear: he is willing to leave the door open, but Harry and Meghan must allow the reconciliation to develop slowly and without pressure.
