The monarch appeared relaxed in footage shared following Earl Spencer’s criticism
King Charles’ team has shared footage of the monarch enjoying a tea dance at Dumfries House following Earl Spencer’s claim that he had been “gaslit” by the King.
Charles appeared cheerful and relaxed as he met guests and continued his public engagements amid controversy surrounding Spencer’s book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
The statement accompanying the video read: “Tea, cake and dancing with The King at Dumfries House!”
It continued: “Last week, His Majesty surprised guests at one of our monthly tea dances and spent time with our Sewing Bees, who are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the community group.”
Organised in collaboration with East Ayrshire Vibrant Communities, the regular tea dances bring local residents together and help tackle social isolation as part of Dumfries House’s health and wellbeing outreach.
The footage followed Spencer’s accusation that the King had gaslit him after the Palace issued a statement responding to allegations in his book.
While the timing could be interpreted as a show of composure, the statement accompanying the video made no reference to Spencer or his remarks.
