Harry and Meghan’s daughter appears to be following in the Princess of Wales’s footsteps with her interest in photography
Princess Lilibet is discovering a hobby that her aunt, the Princess of Wales, knows and loves: photography.
The US-born daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is reportedly settling into life in the UK following the family’s return in August. A photograph shared to mark Harry’s 42nd birthday offered a glimpse of the five-year-old’s growing interest in taking pictures.
In the black-and-white image, Lilibet held a Polaroid camera and angled it upwards to photograph her father. Her face was covered with an emoji for privacy.
Wearing a floral summer dress with her long red hair loose, she appeared focused on getting her shot. Harry, meanwhile, stood still for his daughter, wearing a straw hat as he posed.
It was not Lilibet’s first time behind the camera. In January, Meghan shared a video of herself dancing with Harry as part of a 2016 “throwback” trend, crediting Lilibet in the caption: “Cred: our daughter”.
Photography also interests her older brother, seven-year-old Prince Archie. In 2023, Meghan revealed that Archie, then four, had been learning from her close friend, photographer and filmmaker Misan Harriman.
The siblings share that creative interest with Princess Kate, who regularly takes the photographs released as official portraits of her children.
Speaking to This Morning in 2020, Kate described how she had developed her skills through everyday family moments.
“I am very much an amateur photographer. I’ve sort of learned along the way, but during this time I’ve spent lots of time picking up my camera and taking photographs of the children because they are always around us when we are doing stuff together, which has been great.”
While there is no indication that Lilibet’s photograph was intended as a tribute to her aunt, their shared enthusiasm offers a sweet connection between the young princess and Kate.
