King Charles and Prince William are reportedly preparing for crucial talks ahead of Prince Harry’s expected return to the UK, as tensions within the Royal Family continue to simmer.
The Duke of Sussex is due back in Britain in the coming weeks for his annual commitments to charities he continues to support. Reports suggest Harry could stay at Buckingham Palace during the visit, despite last month’s reported dispute between the Palace and the Sussexes over royal accommodation.
Sources claim the King is still prepared to offer his younger son a room at the Palace, and that Harry is likely to accept.
However, the prospect of Harry’s return is reportedly proving difficult for Prince William, who is said to remain deeply opposed to any renewed closeness between his father and brother. Insiders suggest the disagreement has created strain between the King and the Prince of Wales.
According to Closer, the atmosphere behind Palace doors has become increasingly uncomfortable, prompting aides to arrange a private meeting between the monarch and his heir.
“Their advisors are still communicating, but William and the King are barely acknowledging each other, even when they’re in the same meeting,” a source claimed, describing the situation as “absolutely ludicrous.”
William is reportedly convinced that Harry and Meghan Markle are taking advantage of King Charles’s willingness to keep the door open. With Harry’s trip approaching, insiders believe the disagreement could soon reach a breaking point.
“It’s no secret that William is already furious that his father is ignoring his objections,” the insider added.
Charles is said to have avoided a direct discussion with William for months, but has now reportedly agreed to meet him to decide how the Palace should handle Harry’s upcoming visit. Palace staff are said to be urging both men to resolve their differences before the Duke arrives, fearing the situation could become even more difficult.
